Munkáspárt - Budapest Demonstration 2007
I took this these photos at May Day demonstrations organized by the Hungarian Communist Workers' Party (Munkáspárt) in Budapest. Observing this as an outsider was like travelling back in time to the pre-1989 days.
Red smoke signals the arrival of the Hungarian Communist Workers' Party. Notice that the party's logo--as seen on the front of the vehicle--is a red circle, rather than the customary red star. Red stars, along with swastikas, are banned by law in Hungary. The Communist march, near Budapest's City Park.
Party veterans, representing Köbánya, an industrial, working-class district of Budapest.
Gyula Thürmer, the Communist Workers' Party's leader is seen in the centre.
The Communist ladies feed the crowds. They are spreading lard on bread.
A meeting of generations.
Communist Party president, Gyula Thürmer, dedicates his book.
This Trabant fits in very nicely with the protest.
